After the introduction of the M400 Pelikan wanted to bring a more economical range of piston fillers to the market. The Pelikan 481 can be regarded as a precursor of the M200. Quite unusually the Pelikan logo isn´t on the cap top but beneath the blind cap.
These cap inserts are identical to those of the M400 series, which are decorated with the logo and are held by a golden crown (clip ring). Since the M481 is the cheap version of the M400, he got the insignificant cap (the blind cap) instead of the golden crown, the logo disappeared. Later on, the M200 had the Pelikan logo on the cap. Initially it was screwed, later glued.
In late variants there is no logo under the blind cap. Just as later models do not have a friction fit nib, but a screw-nib unit.
Pens are known, which Pelikan Milano gave with a 12 carat bi-color nib to its business partners.

After 9/1997, the crown cap was changed and a trim ring was added to the filling knob. The M200 pens have a steel nib while model M250 pens have a gold nib. There´s a number of identical fountain pens found in both M200 and M250 versions, only distinguished by the nib material.
