Two Air Pen fountain pens share the same model number, but in fact these are two completely different pens. The Air Pen silver from 1981 sold approximately for 1 year. In spring of 1988 the pen Royal Blue / Silver P38 was introduced under the model name Pelikan Air Pen Royal Blue P458 as a successor model of the Air Pen silver from 1981 in Austria under the name of Nobil.

In 1982 Luigi Colani designed the ballpoint pen 'Pelikan No 1', which was sold with great success in many colors as a promotional item.
Therefore Pelikan developed in 1988/89 the prototype of a cartridge filler, whose style was also designed by Luigi Colani.
In profile, the filler is in the range of the cap edge a triangle with highly rounded edges. The side opposite the clip is approximately round. The cap edge is not cut straight, but has a nose, which covers in a corresponding bulge on the barrel.
Between the grip section and barrel a bulge ensures that during assembly of the two asymmetrical parts they fit always correct. Because any writer uses the pen a little bit different in his hand, the nib including the ink feed in the front can be rotated by 360°.
This Colani pen was produced in different colors as a prototype. But the pens were never produced for the market in this shape. Nevertheless, there are occasional models of this series in collectors hands.

In a modification of the prototype this Colani pen now shows on the level of the cap ring a circular profile. The barrels end is tapered in a triangular shape. The cap head passes over the clip from flat.
This pen was introduced in 1989, but shortly thereafter withdrawn from the market for technical reasons. This Colani fountain pen was made officially only as a white model with black clip.

Pelikan´s new series of Factor pens was addressed to the 18-35-year-old age group. Silver-colored coated plastic barrels, transparent anthracite grip sections and Aluminium caps matched the tastes of this target group. The pens are available as cartridge filler (P40), (rotary) ballpoint pen (K40) and rollerball (R40) with cap. The fountain pens are offered in the nib sizes F, M and B.
Except for the missing profile on the grip section the model matches exactly the forms of the Pelikano model of 2003.

Pelikan created a stylish design with the pens DION, stripped down to the bare essentials and made in plastic and metal. The pen series is available as a cartridge pen (P42), ballpoint pen (K42) and rollerball (R42).
Two early models in black and white are made of soft plastic and seem to have circulated in small numbers as a prototype or for market exploration. I do not have any further information on this.

Unique and eye-catching - that is INEO, the new writing instrument series from Pelikan. The series is characterized by its unique design language. The sandblasted surface provides a matte finish to the colorful anodized devices, which makes the pen pearl shimmering in the light. The look and feel is inspired by minimalism with its reduced design language, calm colors and high-quality processing of natural materials. The special highlight of the Ineo is the missing clip. A feature that sets it apart from other writing instruments of its kind and makes it an eye-catcher in everyday life.
